Who is likely to take a driving instructor course
A group of ten students from our university conducted a study to find out more about future driving instructors. Many participants of regular driving courses complain about their instructors, who are often reported to be rude, impatient, impulsive and indifferent to their students needs. The group of students visited over a hundred driving schools that offered a driving instructor course and already had a full list of participants. These participant were asked to fill in a short questionnaire assessing their motivation. It turned out that most people who join a driving instructor course are actually motivated by money and the prestige that this job can give them. Some of the subjects had some previous experience in teaching, but a great majority didnt. Later, some participants were interviewed by our researchers. They were asked how they would react in some hypothetical situations that required patience, self-control and understanding of other peoples feelings. Most participants turned out to be patient and calm individuals, but a significant number of them lacked empathy, an essential feature of anyone who wants to take part in a driving instructor course or any other course that will give them teaching qualifications.
